"CBS Records" as a business / brand name represents a number of recorded music industry entities/ventures by its successive owners over time up until the current day, thus giving it a different meaning depending on when in time it is being referred to as a business entity within the global music indsutry.

CBS Records was originally the internal parent name of Columbia Broadcasting Services recorded music division from 1938 which included the Columbia Label, ARC Records (American Record Corporation) and later on the Epic Records label (1953). CBS Records as a name came in being when the Columbia Broadcasting Corporation under the direction of its CEO William S. Paley purchased the assets and rights of ARC Records which included the Columbia Records label for $750,000.
