ABOUT HIM:

MICHAEL HUTCHENCE
(1960-1997)
The dynamic frontman for Eighties rockers INXS, he soared to the heights of international stardom before his tragic death at age 37. Growing up in Hong Kong, Sydney and Los Angeles, he had an early interest in poetry and music. INXS gigged around the Australian pub circuit until it found success in the early 1980s with high-energy tracks like The One Thing and Original Sin. With album sales scaling the millions in the mid-late Eighties, and INXS among the top bands in the world, their live performances became major events, renowned for Hutchence’s charismatic onstage presence. Linked romantically with pop idol Kylie Minogue and supermodel Helena Christensen, his relationship with TV presenter Paula Yates (who had been married to rock star Bob Geldof) led to personal turmoil. He was found dead in a Sydney hotel room in November 1997 in an apparent suicide, and within three years Yates was dead too, from a drug overdose.

A posthumous self titled solo album was released of Hutchence in 1999, two years after his death.
